Our Mission:

The mission of the health division of ASAHPERD is to promote and encourage the advancement of quality programs in Health and Health Education in educational institutions and other community settings through leadership and advocacy.

What We Do:

Our programming, presentations, and articles offer practical ideas and strategies for health instructors, teachers, and community leaders looking to incorporate health programs into their school curriculum or community programs.

How to Get Involved:

There are plenty of ways to get involved in the health division of ASAHPERD. Whether it is lending your voice, giving your time, or sharing our story with others, we need your help and we look forward to counting you in. We can all work together for better health in schools and in the community.

School Wellness Policies:

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • The School Health Index (SHI): Online self-assessment and planning tool that schools can use to improve their health and safety policies and programs.
  • School Health Profiles: System of surveys assessing school health policies and practices in states, large urban school districts, territories, and tribal communities. Profiles surveys are conducted every 2 years by education and health agencies. 
  • School Health Policies and Practices Study (SHPPS): National survey periodically conducted to assess school health policies and practices at the state, district, school, and classroom levels. 
  • The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS): Monitors six types of health-risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults.
